Addiction

The Husband has an addiction. It is not an addiction to alcohol or drugs or gambling or any other sordid thing; however, it is an addiction and with it comes all sorts of annoying and painful stuff. The Husband’s addiction is to vehicles. He is never satisfied and is always looking for something bigger or better. Unlike other addictions, there is no Vehicles Anonymous or medications with which one can kick this addiction. I truly believe there is no cure…ever…and that brings me much sadness. I honestly cannot count the number of vehicles The Husband has bought and sold (always for a loss) during the 20 years we’ve dated and been married. This sort of addiction would not be so hard if we were, in fact, wealthy people, but we are not.

WAY back in 1999, The Husband bought a truck. It was a 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad cab. Being a true redneck, The Husband could not leave said vehicle alone. He transformed it into this. His vehicle was so very recognizable around town…everyone knew where The Husband was. Having this toy seemed to satiate The Husband’s appetite for vehicles and all was well.

About a year and a half ago, The Husband sold the truck for a number of reasons, not the least of which was poor gas mileage. To this very day, The Husband mourns the loss of his truck much like one mourns the passing of a loved one. Long story short…he ended up with a GMC that we both really like. Because he no longer had a toy The Husband was bored. He went out and bought a motorcycle. He rode his bike quite a bit last year but this summer, The Kids and I moved out here and The Husband rarely rides the motorcycle.

Anyone see where this is going? Yep. He is now ready to sell the motorcycle so he can buy a Bronco. Apparently, he has ALWAYS wanted a 1979 Ford Bronco. The motorcycle is for sale for far less than The Husband paid and, of course, for less than the cost of the Bronco he is eyeballing. My vote is to actually sell the motorcycle before spending the money on the Bronco. The Husband does not see it that way. He wants a specific Bronco…he has already spoken with its owner. It will not be for sale forever, you know...

  1. I so feel your pain. Please let me know if you ever do find a Vehicles Anonymous - I believe I married their leader.

  2. Hey, what ever happened with the Mustang you guys bought?

  3. The Mustang was sold prior to The Husband's moving here because we did not know that we would have (1) a place to work on it; (2) a method of transport; & (3) storage.
