Blessings come in threes too!

For some time now I have been thinking about three of my blessings…and I do not mean The Husband, The Boy, and The Girl. They are blessings, but not the type I’m thinking of right now. The blessings I’m referring to are friends.

I consider myself extremely fortunate in that I have 3 amazingly close friends all of whom I love dearly. It astounds me when others tell me they have plenty of acquaintances, a few friends, but no close friends. I cannot even imagine such a life. I want to take this time now to share a little about these amazing women in my life and how much they inspire my every day.

The first friend of whom I speak has been my best friend since our junior year of high school. I had just moved to Indiana from New Jersey and did not think kindly of my parents! Leesa’s and my friendship developed slowly and steadily over that first year and by the end of the summer, we were practically attached at the hip. Looking back, it’s hard to believe we’ve been friends for *gasp* twenty-four years! Eek! (I told you I was old!) My reflective mood is due, in part, to the fact that today is her birthday and I’m overcome with warm feelings and love for her. We have been through so very much together and I cannot think of anyone else with whom I’d have shared so many moments of my life (and can think of no one else who can get me in so much trouble if she were to spill it all…and vice versa!) Actually, we have spilled it all and now, looking back, it is so much funnier. The stories we’ve finally told our parents even have them laughing. Happy Birthday, Leesa!

The second friend about whom I am writing is also celebrating a birthday…but hers is tomorrow. She is my friend, April. April and I met 10 ½ years ago just after our children were born. Our husbands were working together and met at work. They introduced us shortly thereafter. We had so much in common - our husbands just knew we’d hit it off…and they were right. As I said, we’d both just given birth to our first children – hers not even two weeks before mine – and our lives were changing. Our husbands were starting new jobs together and we had both quit our jobs to become mommies. I had recently moved, so having a friend in town was huge. We had each other to compare mommy notes and to get out of the house. She was a true life-line for me as I swam through post-partum depression. One of the things I love most about her is that she will not lie to me. She will always tell me the truth whether she agrees with me or not and I respect the hell out of her for it. She is an amazing woman and I cannot imagine my life without her in it. Happy early Birthday, April!

My third friend is not celebrating a birthday anytime soon…she still has 3 ½ months to go for that! She is my friend, Nichole, and I don’t even know where to begin! If you were to ask her about when and where we met, she could tell you everything…down to the very details of what we were wearing…I know this because she has told me as much! Apparently, I was wearing a pink shirt and overall shorts when we met for the first time at Burger King. (I hope that is right, Nichole!) We were in a playgroup together with our friend Melissa. Our children were so young…Nichole and Melissa each had only one child back then! Nichole and I just seemed to hit it off. Unbeknownst to me, I inspired her to sew more by showing her a purse I’d made. She introduced me to the world of papercrafting and with that, we had many interesting adventures together! She is another friend to whom I can pour my heart out and say anything without being judged. She is a blessing in my life and I am reminded of that daily.

I suppose the sad part of this is that I do not live in close proximity to any of these amazing women anymore. At times, it is rather difficult for me. I think of each of them daily, and I know they know that, but sometimes, it’s nice to do something to make sure they know. I hope all three of them have the opportunity to read this and know how deeply I love them.

  1. YEAH for friends!! Two of my absolute closest friends are both getting married this year and I couldn't be happier for them. Neither live near me yet when we talk it is as if we had just been together earlier in the day. It is so awesome when you find a special friend like that!

  2. All I can say is thank goodness for cheap calling plans and the mighty internet. I have some great friends, but 95% of them live far away.
