I love a parade...

OK - not really, but it's a song, right?!

This Saturday, there is a parade in town. The Girl will be "marching" with her gymnastics team. She's pretty excited about that and we're happy for her. She has not started competing yet - that will begin in January - but still...she's happy and we're happy.

Remember The Boy? Remember how his football team won the Superbowl? Well, despite the photos the newspaper guy shot, there was never an article or write-up or anything in the newspaper. In fact, there was nothing in the paper last year when they won either. I don't know how much the boys cared, but we parents noticed and were a wee bit miffed. When it happened again this year, we were a wee bit MORE than miffed. WTH? These boys won their championship game and they don't get so much as a nod in the local paper? (And - fyi - when I say "local paper" I mean LOCAL...if it did not happen in THIS county or to someone FROM this county, it is not in the paper!) Again, this year, they went undefeated and still, not a mention in the paper! Remember, though, there is some animosity within the league and our team is not the "chosen" team - that was the league rival (who our boys beat four times in a row). I'm just sayin'...

Anyway, I knew all about the parade because, as I mentioned, The Girl is in it. I said something to a few parents at the end-of-season Superbowl party about how cool it would be for our boys to march in the parade as well - as the UNDEFEATED league champions...with back to back championships. The parents with whom I spoke were very excited by the idea.

Today, when I got home from work, there was a message on my machine. One of the coaches applied for a float/spot in the parade and it was granted! Our boys will be in the parade with their jerseys on and banners and all sorts of stuff proclaiming them champions!

How's that for recognition?! :) Of course, The Husband is not all that thrilled by the idea that, as a coach, he will be marching as well!

  1. Yay - there will be lots of marching going on.
As for the paper thing - when B's baseball team won their championship, we had to write our own article & submit it - they printed it as written.
You might want to give it a try.
    What could it hurt?

  4. It'a all about sports here in the local rag. I'm on the other end of the spectrum here ... sports are over rated. My kids are in local sporting activities and I am begining to wonder if they will ever focus on education.
