To the Birthday Girl

Today, The Girl turns 10! Wow! As of 10:21am, I will no longer have any children in single digits. I kinda feel like this guy right after he spits up...

Whoa! is exactly the right term! I can't even believe it! And so we enter the long six week period during which if someone asks me how old the kids are, I answer "Um...they're 10," followed by, "No, they're not twins."

10 is kinda cool, I guess. I don't have a whole lot of experience with it. The Boy is 10 so I've had about 10 ½ months of practice, but it's so different with a boy than with a girl. The Boy has settled down considerably. The Girl, I'm afraid, has gone in the other direction. She is something else! Funny thing is, there are things about her at this stage that I admire and want her to hold onto. At the same time, if she does not check that attitude, she may not see eleven!

I love how independent she is. I love how bright and motivated she can be when she wants something. She is beautiful. She is fun to be around when she is in a good mood. At the same time, she is moody!!! WOW, is she ever moody! And, a plum mess when she gets into those moods...which are all a part of the whole puberty thing so I know it won't stop any time soon! *sigh* BUT...we've started doing mommy-daughter things more often and we are both really enjoying them. Last weekend, we went to an arts & crafts festival and had a great time together.

For her birthday, I am taking her and four of her friends to see High School Musical 3. She is extremely excited and has talked about it since she found out the movie was opening right around her birthday. It was the only thing she wanted for a "party" and I happily obliged. That will happen tomorrow, after school. Today, it's a family day. Grandma and Pop Pop are here and we are going to the fall festival at school.

Happy Birthday, Girl! I love you!

  2. Happy Birthday!

I have not told my super obsessed six year old that HSM is out yet. What she doesn't know won't hurt her, right??
